fay-ann-lyons-alvarezThree-time Road March queen Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez spent last night at the Mt Hope Women’s Hospital, where her doctor ordered she be taken for observation.

Fay Ann’s husband, Ian “Bunji Garlin” Alvarez, said he took her to the maternity hospital at about 7 pm, on the advice of her private doctor after a check-up earlier yesterday.

“Yes, I dropped her off for observation but I don’t know if it will be overnight or just a few hours. She is good,” said Alvarez.

On Ash Wednesday, word spread that Fay-Ann had given birth to a baby girl, however, the mother-to-be, in a Newsday exclusive, told fans, “No baby yet.”

Fay-Ann is eight months pregnant and performed at fetes and shows throughout the Carnival season, even competing in the International Soca Monarch competitions, where she won three titles with the highly-popular “Meet Superblue”. She dethroned her husband, who has won the Power Soca Monarch crown three times, one of them a tie with Iwer George.

Fay-Ann crowned off her historic season with her third Road March win on Carnival Tuesday. She dismissed critics who felt she should have been off the soca circuit often declaring at fetes that her pregnancy was not a sickness.

In her interview with Newsday, Fay-Ann said she remained healthy and continued to have a good pregnancy.

“I have been blessed without having the morning sickness that is usually associated with pregnancies and I thank God for that. I have been keeping a specific diet and exercise and have been having regular checks with the doctors and sticking to their directives and instructions,” she told Newsday.

Neither Fay-Ann nor Alvarez would disclose the sex of the baby which they regard as a blessing.

“The baby, which we are much looking forward to, is very exciting for us. I am keeping focused with my family and the newest member that is on the way,” she said.
